Fareham Heathens Rugby Club Under 9s put on a great display in front of 82,000 strong Twickenham crowd.

Fareham Heathens RFC's under 9s rugby team were invited to show off their talents and join the Rugby Premiership's Harlequins and Wasps teams playing at Twickenham Stadium at the hugely popular Big Game 11 held each year just after Christmas.

Heathens Community Liaision officer, Lucy Savage, co-ordinated not just the under 9s being able to play on the hallowed turf but for there to be a 130 plus strong club members supporting the youngsters putting their skills to the test in front of 82,000 rugby fans. Despite the size of the occasion, the players showed no fear in running out into the bright lights and enjoyed playing a brief game of rugby against Teddington RFC, something that not many will ever get to do.

The Under 9s Coach, Anthony Leeson stated: "To play in front of 82,000 people at Twickenham was a truly unforgettable experience for the players - the coaches and parents are incredibly proud. The squad continues to grow and we are developing a strong identity of teamwork, friendship and unity."

Amongst the supporters were the club's Committee and Club President, Paul Tudor, who emphasised the support of the club: "Fareham Heathens RFC would like to thank Harlequins RFC, Lucy Savage for her commitment and all the parents and coaches for taking time out to provide our Under 9s the opportunity to run out as a squad at Twickenham Rugby HQ. We are very proud of our players and are delighted that they could experience something like this".

Fareham Heathens RFC coach rugby from under 6s through to senior teams for both men and ladies. Training times for age groups up to 16s is each Sunday morning from 10am - 12pm. The Colts train Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings, Ladies train on Tuesday evening and the Senior men's teams training Tuesday and Thursday 7 - 8.30pm, playing matches on Saturdays. Chairman, Dave Tyson, confirmed that "we pride ourselves in continuing to support and encourage rugby development at each age group and welcome anyone who would like to try rugby whatever their age or ability. They can either just turn up at training or make contact via or email".
