As we do not have a large squad we were joined by 7 players from Trojans, who were not selected for their own squad. We were therefore entered in the tournament as Fareham Heathens Barbarians.

Obviously, not knowing each other meant that it took a while for everyone to start playing as a team; however after two hard matches they all started to gel together. Against Winchester & Portsmouth, in their last two pool games, they put up stunning defensive displays which would make any Coach proud.

After the pool rounds the team were in the final of the Bowl Competition against Eastleigh. The entire squad were up for the match believing that they had at last proved themselves as a team. The final was a very close affair with the BaaBaa’s again showing their defensive skills with some stunning tackles to stop the Eastleigh offence. As the game entered the final minute the score was 1-1. With virtually the first missed tackle of the game from the BaaBaa’s , Eastleigh scored the winning try. Every  BaaBaa player was rightly disappointed.

All of the players should all hold their heads up, for showing that a team of players who were thrown together at the last minute could form a cohesive team and come very close to leaving the tournament with some silverware.

Well done to all the players from Heathens & Trojans at this tournament for showing their skills off. Thank you Trojans for supplying the extra players, many of whom must have been close to being in your own squad. Thank you also to all of the parents who came to watch on Mother’s Day, all of the squad appreciated your screams of support.
